A. Sotomiwa Notes   Work with me

Sumayya clocks 3 months

How has it already been 3 months since you came into our lives? It feels like just yesterday we were holding you in our arms for the very first time, gazing at your tiny face in awe. And yet, at the same time, it feels like you’ve always been a part of us, as though you’ve always belonged here, filling our home and hearts with your presence.

At 3 months, you’ve already begun to show us glimpses of who you are, and every new moment with you is a little discovery. Your eyes are wide and curious, always exploring the world around you. When we talk to you, your gaze locks onto ours, as if you’re trying to soak in every word, every expression, with those big, bright eyes of yours. The connection we share when you look at us is beyond anything we ever imagined—it’s like you already know us so well, like you understand more than you can say.

And speaking of talking, your voice! Oh, Sumayya, you’ve started to find your voice, and it’s the most beautiful sound we’ve ever heard. Your little coos and gurgles fill the room like music. Sometimes, when I talk to you, you try so hard to respond, those adorable sounds bubbling up from you as if you’re joining the conversation in your own way. It’s amazing how you already want to communicate, how much you’re growing and learning every day. Those little sounds mean more to us than any words could because they’re a piece of you, a part of your blossoming personality.

You’ve also discovered your smile, and what a gift that has been. Every time you flash us that tiny grin, our hearts melt a little more. It’s like you’re letting us in on your little world, showing us that you’re happy, that you feel safe and loved. Your smile is the purest thing we’ve ever seen—so full of innocence and joy—and when you laugh, it’s as if the whole room lights up. Those moments are what we live for now. Seeing you smile is like watching the sun rise, a daily reminder of how precious and perfect you are.

You’ve become more active too, moving those tiny arms and legs with such determination. You’re so strong for someone so small! You’ve started trying to grab at things—my fingers, your mum’s hair, the toys we dangle in front of you. You don’t always get a firm grip yet, but you’re getting there. And every time your little fingers wrap around ours, it feels like a small victory, a sign of the strength and growth that’s happening right in front of us.

You’re also starting to roll from side to side, wriggling around on your back with a sense of curiosity, as if you’re trying to figure out how this whole “body” thing works. I know it won’t be long before you start rolling over fully, and then the adventure of crawling will be just around the corner. But for now, I’m treasuring these moments when you’re still small enough to curl up in our arms, where we can hold you close and feel your little heartbeat against ours.

At night, when you’re tucked in and the world is quiet, I often find myself just watching you sleep. There’s something so peaceful about the way you drift off, your chest rising and falling so softly. You sometimes stir, letting out little sighs or tiny stretches, and I’m reminded of how pure and fragile these early days are. In those moments, I wonder what you’re dreaming about—do you dream of us, of the faces and voices that surround you every day? Or are you dreaming of the world you're just beginning to discover?

Sumayya, you have brought so much joy and love into our lives in these first three months. You’ve already grown so much, and every day we are amazed by you—by your strength, your sweetness, your curiosity. We can’t wait to watch you continue to grow, to see the world through your eyes as you discover more and more of it.

But for now, we are cherishing these moments—your little sounds, your bright eyes, your laughter. You are the most precious part of our lives, and watching you become the beautiful person you’re meant to be is the greatest gift we’ve ever received.

We love you more than words can say, and we always will. These first three months have been nothing short of magical, and we can’t wait to see where the journey takes us next.
